This is achieved through three years of study.
2. OBJECTIVES :
To create awareness regarding safe and judicious use of blood among the clinicians and to promote voluntary blood donation in the society.
3. HEAD OF DEPARTMENT'S MESSAGE:
The department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion was made as an offshoot or a specialization from the branch of Pathology in 2005, in order to provide didactic education & practical training in all aspects of blood transfusion technology, to develop the knowledge required to analyze Immunohaematological problems, to provide experience in blood centre policies such as donor recruitment, collection, preservation, administration of blood & blood components and to educate other medical personnels regarding the judicious use of blood.
The department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion is recognized by Medical Council of India and is the fourth centre in India to start a postgraduate course in the subject. Every year 2 post graduate students are admitted to the course. This sort of a centre was the need of the hour for the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad with attached medical college, where all speciality and superspeciality courses are running. The department of IHBT (Blood Bank) is essential for the Medical College to run different types of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The department is situated in B-2 ward of Civil Hospital covering an area of approximately 6000 sq ft.
The blood bank has been allotted MODEL BLOOD BANK status by NACO and is a Training Centre for Blood Bank Medical Officers, Technicians, Nursing Staff, Counselors as well as Blood Storage Centre staff.
It is the FIRST GOVERMENT BLOOD BANK IN THE COUNTRY TO ACHIEVE NABH Accreditation in 2010.
It is my humble request to all to donate blood regularly at our centre so that needy patients of Civil Hospital never ever feel the shortage of blood.
